Position: Assistant Coordinator - Urban Organic Gardening Annual Spring Seminars
This is a call for an Assistant Coordinator for COG OSO- Canadian Organic Growers- the local Ottawa St Lawrence Outaouais Chapter’s Annual Spring Urban Organic Gardening Seminars.
COG OSO is a regional chapter of a national charity, whose mandate is to lead local and national communities towards sustainable organic stewardship of land, food and fibre while respecting nature, upholding social justice and protecting natural resources.
We are a lively and enthusiastic group based in Ottawa, and we offer numerous events and programs year-round to support knowledge and skills for farmers, gardeners, educators, children, seniors, and anyone who is interested in eating healthy food and living in healthy environments. Details of our activity are available at our new website: http://www.cog.ca/ottawa. Nearly all of our activities are coordinated by volunteers, and are sponsored by many different organizations. You will have opportunities to learn about organic agriculture locally and on a broader scale.
We are currently searching for an Assistant Coordinator for our
Annual Spring Urban Organic Gardening Seminars
The Seminars take place in April-May annually at a central location offering seven seminars in English and currently two seminars in French with a menu of core organic gardening topics plus two topics that rotate every 2-3 years based on popular demand.
This is a volunteer position for a minimum of one year.
Here is a brief description of this position
1. Mentoring with the current coordinator in the organization of the Urban Organic Gardening Seminars taking place in April-May annually
2. Coordinating of Instructors and Volunteers
3. Coordinating Seminar Overview Plans, Instructor bios, Handout and the Promotion Plan
4. Coordinating Surveys of Satisfaction & Suggestions
5. Coordinating the June Planning Meeting of the Advisory Committee and reporting to the Steering Committee prior to payment of the honorarium.
6. Liaison with other gardening groups offering workshops and courses in organic gardening
7. Other duties as needed
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful and a lasting contribution to our communities in the area of developing awareness, knowledge, skills and commitment for gardeners wanting to start growing their own vegetables, herbs, fruit and edible flowers for but that person bb food. There will be consideration given to offering an honorarium at the end of the delivery of the seminars as an incentive to complete the year and to undertake a second year.
