The Power of Just Doing Stuff – The Transition Movement!

“Transition … it’s the opposite of us sitting in our armchairs complaining about what’s wrong, and instead, it’s about getting up and doing something constructive about it alongside our neighbours and fellow townsfolk. And people tell us that as a result of being involved in their local “transition initiative”, they’re happier, their community feels more robust and they have made a lot of new friends.”
Rob Hopkins, Co-founder of the Transition Network

There are now over 1100 registered Transition initiatives in 43 countries working together to create resilient communities and to raise awareness of climate change, peak oil and their dependence on economic models that insist on continued growth despite Earth’s finite resources. We will talk about what we have been doing in NDG, share our dreams and learn about yours.

We look forward to meeting you!

Presenters:

Jane Barr - Jane is passionate about growing food as an empowering way to bring people together in community. She is a semi-retired environmental consultant and an adoring grandmother of 4.

Kathryn Aitken - Kathy took the Permaculture Design Certification in 2011 and is inspired by its ethics of Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share. She helped found Transition NDG as a logical complement to Permaculture and is excited by the amazing collective genius found in our community. Before retirement she worked as a hospital administrator.

Maureen Lafrenière - Maureen has been involved in environment projects and public education for more than 25 years. She is a founding member of the Westmount Healthy City Project in 1990, and was Westmount’s Environment Coordinator for seven years. She now works in municipal communications and obtained her Permaculture Design Certificate in 2006.

Satoshi Ikeda - Satoshi works toward sustainable futures following social economy models. His daytime job is teaching sociology of food and sustainability at Concordia, but what he enjoys most is community action and painting.
